NSW Building Reforms – have your say!
Please follow this link for an opportunity for industry stakeholders for feedback into the new reforms.
We believe the reforms are needed, however the guidelines for compliance and documentation were clearly written with “newbuild” in mind, and not remedial projects. The application of the guidelines and pressure to make regulated building work comply with the BCA has effectively turned Design and Building Practitioners into the bad-news people for our clients, and informal feedback indicates a downturn in remedial projects as clients are put off by the upfront documentation costs, and strict compliance costs.
From a remedial perspective, we will be submitting feedback requesting guidance on dealing with conflict between what the current BCA requires, and what legacies lie in wait for remedial projects (such as insulation, sound attenuation, stormwater drainage improvements, balustrade heights and door clearances).
What is your feedback? Please take the time to have your say.
